Question:

Any thoughts of how to find low cost flights? What airlines to check out? Any tips you are able to help me with would be really welcome.

Answer:

Amongst the most frequent questions we are asked is about getting "cheap flights". There is absolutely nothing wrong with "cheap", as long as all of your needs are met for a reasonable price. "It's financially sensible"!

It's probably better to think in terms of the "right price" instead of the "cheapest". Make up one's mind about what you would wish to pay and get something that comes as near to it as you are able to.

If you’re flying on a short or mid-length flight, there are now several low-cost airlines where you could find some great cheap flights. Don’t be put off by the term ‘low-cost’. They are governed by the same guidelines as larger or more commercial airlines: all must follow strict safety procedures.

Tips:

Whenever you do find a flight within the price range you’re wanting to pay, book it. The longer you leave it the higher the price tends to be. The general rule of thumb is that if you book early – your flights will be cheaper.

It is not the best idea to book flights just before or during main holiday periods. As an alternative, just after holiday periods, will find the better fares.

It's a good idea when you're looking for cheap flights to look at booking your flights on Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons, around 12:30am as travel experts suggest that if a company has decided to set a reduction of price, these are the times when a lot of airlines offer up many of their better deals

Consider one-way flights. You may find that separately booking the outward-bound and inward-bound flights sometimes reduces the price and can be cheaper than simply buying a return ticket. Don’t be afraid of using this option, it frequently delivers the best selection of available prices. Why pay more than you have to?

Being flexible about when you are able to fly. Rather than entering specific dates, you will be able to shop for the better deals by selecting "Whole month" - use a price calendar or chart to discover the cheapest day to fly. Choose "Whole year" to find the cheapest month.

In conclusion – don’t leave your search too long. It’s better to have a flight booked; at or more or less the price you’re wanting to pay - than to have no flight at all. Once you find a flight near to the figure, book it. The cheapest price is an elusive creature. Don’t end up paying a price way above your initial figure just because you didn’t buy the one at the right price when you found it.
